Induce the digestion

Indigestion is the condition in which the food is not digested properly. Indigestion is the discomfort in the stomach after food consumption. It is usually characterized by bloating, heart burn and nausea.

Ayurveda Perspective of Indigestion Indigestion is known as Ajeerna in Ayurveda. In Ayurveda the focus is on the balance of the three doshas in the body namely vata, pitta and kapha. The food we eat is digested by Agni or body fire, plays a vital role in digestion. Agni is mainly situated in Jatara or in upper part of digestive system and is called as Jataragni. The Agni is further categorized as Bhootagni, Dhatwagni and Malagni, each performing different functions related to digestion. The Jataragni controls the functioning of Bhootagni, Dhatwagni and Malagni. According to Ayurveda irregular and improper eating habits lead to indigestion in majority of the patients. Diet adjustments combined with herbal medicines are used to treat indigestion.

Symptoms of Indigestion: A feeling of heaviness and fullness, Heartburn Discomfort in the stomach region, Stiffness in waist and back, Nausea Fever and thirst Headache, giddiness and fainting.

Types of indigestion:
Amajeerna: Ama is the Ayurvedic name of toxin that causes different symptoms.
Vishthabdhajeerna: In this types of indigestion pains and aches in the abdomen and in the body like headache backache are common. Other conditions such as gas in the abdomen and various types of Vata induced disorders like stiffness, confusion, obstruction to the flatus and feces, and body ache.
Vidagdhajeerna: Vertigo, thirst, fainting, and various other disorders due to Pitta, perspiration and burning sensation in the stomach are noticed.
Dinapaki Ajeerna: Normally the digestion of food takes a few hours. When it takes more than 24 hours the condition is Dinapaki Ajeerna. It requires medical attention.

Causes For Indigestion:
Food is not properly digested because of the low power of the digestive system. Excessive drinking of water, consumption of incompatible foods such as spicy, oily foods and use of tobacco, improper sleeping habits and suppression of natural urges are other factors that lead to indigestion. The other causes are diseases already present in the body like infection of the liver, pancreas, gall bladder or intestines. Intestinal parasites may also be the cause of indigestion. In certain conditions like pregnancy, menopause, women may suffer from indigestion. Some medications may cause indigestion too. or premenstrual period Anxiety, stress and some emotional factors may also lead to indigestion.

Ajmoda is useful against diseases of the digestive tract and fever. Unclean tap water can result in complications; Ajmoda often comes to the traveler's rescue. Just chew on spoonful of the fruits for of Ajmoda a few minutes and wash down with hot water.

Chitrakamool pacifies vata and kapha doshas. It promotes digestion and improves appetite.
